Photofields returns to Powerhouse Sydney with a day of photography talks

Powerhouse’s annual photography festival, Photofields, returns this Saturday 15 November, featuring a full day of talks by some of Australia’s leading photographers.

This year’s program focuses on documentary practice and the role of images in shaping cultural memory.

With tickets priced at $10 per session, Photofields provides an opportunity for photography enthusiasts and professionals to meet, learn, and discuss how photography captures and influences the world.

Highlights of the festival include:

  • Six-time Walkley Award-winning photojournalist Andrew Quilty discussing authorship and the responsibilities photographers have to their subjects with photographer, filmmaker, and community development worker Bahram Mia.

  • Photographer and storyteller William Yang sharing his perspective on Australian photography, reflecting on his Chinese-Australian heritage and LGBTQ+ experiences.

  • Photographer Barbara McGrady discussing the camera’s role in resistance and reclamation through her work photographing First Nations athletes, in conversation with Nathan Mudyi Sentance, Head of Collections, First Nations at Powerhouse.
