Photo Sydney opens this week
Sydney Contemporary returns to Carriageworks from 11–14 September 2025 with a new addition to its program: a dedicated photography platform titled Photo Sydney.
Now in its ninth edition, the fair has developed from a biennial into an annual event since its 2013 debut, presenting contemporary art from across Australasia and beyond.
The introduction of Photo Sydney reflects the growing prominence of photography within the fine art world and increased demand from collectors for focused representation of the medium.
Curated with input from Sandy Edwards, photographer and former director of Stills Gallery, Photo Sydney will feature 17 galleries and artists presenting curated exhibitions of new and significant photographic works.
Confirmed exhibitors include Blender Gallery, Australian Galleries, Olsen Gallery, Alexia Sinclair, Toby Burrows, Oculi Collective, Roger Ballen, and John Gollings.
More than 25,000 visitors are expected to attend the fair. Organisers say the new sector will broaden the program and provide a dedicated platform for photography at a national level.
Photo Sydney opens tomorrow. Tickets range from $35 to $150, with details available on the Sydney Contemporary website.
