Sydney's Kaleidoscope Gallery will host a new exhibition showcasing the personal photographic art projects of leading advertising and portrait photographers.

Part of the wider 2013 Head On Photo Festival, 'The Collective 01' seeks to highlight what some of the industry’s top commercial and portrait photographers are producing outside of their professional client briefs. Curated by Sydney-based photographer Simon Bernhardt, the exhibition features creative portraiture by Robin Sellick, Fiona Wolf, Toby Burrows, Graham Monro, Liz Ham, Ingvar Kenne, Sean Izzard and Bernhardt himself.

“The Collective 01 exhibition was initially inspired by my own personal photographic art projects. There is often a stigma attached to commercial and portrait photographers producing personal work that is classified, displayed and sold as ‘art’,” says Bernhardt. “I am always appealing to others that there is a general lack of understanding and appreciation of photography as an art form - it’s really down to education I believe. The Collective 01 is, I hope, the start of many more similar exhibitions in the near future."

'The Collective 01' opens Thursday 13 June at Kaleidoscope Gallery, Chippendale, and will run until June 25.
