PDN announces 2017 Photo Annual contest winners

Photo District News has announced the winners of its 2017 PDN Photo Annual competition.

The well-regarded photography website selected 165 winners from thousands of entries across 10 categories. The competition was open to both amateurs and pros.

Photographer: Emile Ducke, Category: Student Work. A portrait of Aidara, a West Siberian village accessible only by boat and home to a small community of Russian Orthodox Old Believers. This faction continues liturgical practices prior to church reforms introduced in the mid-17th century. Life in Aidara, Ducke explains, consists of exhausting agricultural work, and beyond the village is a vast forest, prone to fires that the residents must control in the dry summers.
