Paper moon: Images of Japan by Tony Maniaty opens in Sydney
Sydney photographer Tony Maniaty will present a new exhibition, PAPER MOON: Images of Japan, at the Kirribilli Centre Gallery from 15 to 27 November 2025.
The exhibition is part of the Open Program of this year’s Head On Photo Festival.
The series was created during two trips to Japan in 2024 and 2025, when Maniaty travelled through cities and regional areas to photograph daily life.
From more than one thousand images, curator Kathryn Hunyor has selected 21 black and white works that focus on the textures and rhythms of contemporary Japan.
“After years of working as a journalist and covering conflict and social tensions, I wanted to look in a different direction, towards love and beauty,” Maniaty says.
The exhibition will open to the public on Saturday 15 November from 12 to 5pm at the Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre Gallery, 16–18 Fitzroy Street, Kirribilli.
