Olympus says its pocket-size Stylus Tough TG-830 combines GPS functionality, high-performance imaging and high-definition super-slow motion video recording.
The TG-830, with a 16 megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor and a 28-140mm (5x) zoom lens, is aimed at active photographers who want a compact Tough camera. The camera has a TruePic VI image processor (OM-D class), Dual Image Stabilisation (sensor shift and digital IS); and multi-motion IS for video. It's waterproof to 10m, shockproof to 2.1m, freeze resistant to -10C, and it can withstand 100kg. Suitable for use in the surf, on rocks, or snorkelling, the Stylus Tough TG-830 also enables outdoor enthusiasts to use location data for geo-assisted photography.
Its High Speed Video recording option captures dramatic slow-motion movies of fast-moving action. For fast satellite acquisition outdoors, the Stylus Tough TG-830 uses A-GPS technology (Assist-GPS) which provides a rapid 10-second satellite detection capability via a user pre-download of 10-day valid satellite positioning information from the internet. A digital compass is displayed on screen for easy direction finding. GPS Logger function provides travel position data for use with Google Earth and similar cartographic apps.
The TG-830's High Speed Video feature captures movies at high frame rates. Its 120fps setting gives 4x slow-motion playback at HD 720p resolution (240 fps HVGA resolution video at 8x slow motion). Practical applications for this include analysis of sporting techniques or biomechanical movements, such as golf swings and tennis strokes. For movies at Full HD resolution, users can select from 60 frames per second interlaced (60i), or 30 frames per second progressive scan (30p) recording modes. The Tough TG-830 has an Underwater Protector Tough (rated to 45m), a float hand strap, a silicon jacket, a wearable case, and a soft camera case.
