Olympus’ new SP-810UZ features a 36x zoom with an equivalent focal length stretching from a wide 24mm to a staggering 864mm. That makes it the longest optical zoom available on any current compact digital (as of July 2011).

The camera, which replaces last year’s SP-800UZ, features dual image stabilisation, 720p movies, AF tracking and two new in-camera effects – “miniature filter” (narrows depth of focus to simulate the tilt-shift look), and “reflection filter” (adds a reflection below the subject).

In 3D-mode the camera combines two photos of the same subject from different angles to generate 3D images that can be viewed on a 3D-compatible monitor or television. There’s also in-camera panorama, which combines three shots to produce one wide image, simply by panning the camera across the scene.

The Olympus SP-810UZ is expected to be available in September 2011. Australian pricing was not available at press time but as a guide, Olympus in the USA has announced an RRP of US$329.99.
