Northern Metropolitan Institute of TAFE photography graduates are staging an exhibition of their work at Chapel off Chapel in Melbourne.

Melbourne-based NMIT’s (Northern Metropolitan Institute of TAFE) Diploma of Photoimaging students will be holding a graduate exhibition at Chapel off Chapel theatre in Prahran from Tuesday, November 19. The exhibition will host a range of different photography styles from the 28 graduating students.

The work covers a number of different subjects including architecture, fashion and fine-art photography. Diversity is encouraged by Program Coordinator Alex Zattelman. “The training is vocational, but we don’t believe there’s a mould for photographers. Setting yourself apart in the industry is an important aspect of becoming a professional.”

The exhibition is organised by the graduating students, who held a print auction to help fund their grad show. Chapel off Chapel’s public gallery gives the students a chance to exhibit their work to the public and to make their first sales.

In 2014 NMIT will open a new campus on the site of Swinburne University’s former Prahran campus, which will operate under the name of Melbourne Polytechnic. Melbourne Polytechnic will deliver training in a wide selection of creative industries including design, photography, visual arts, professional writing and editing, digital media, music, theatre arts, live production theatre and events, costume design and makeup, sound production and media.

The Diploma of Photoimaging exhibition runs from Tuesday, November 19 until Sunday December 8 at Chapel off Chapel, 12 Little Chapel Street, Prahran. To preview the photographers and some of their work, visit www.nmitgradshow.com
