Nikon’s James Murray has been elected President of the Imaging & Digital Entertainment Association (IDEA), formerly known as the Photo Imaging Council of Australia (PICA). Murray takes over from Dave Marshall, who stepped down after filling the post for the past four years.

Murray's appointment came at the IDEA Annual General Meeting where the following office bearers were appointed: President: James Murray (Nikon); Vice President – Consumer: Marc Radatt (Olympus); Vice President – Professional: Rob Gatto (Kayell); Treasurer: Clem Kennedy (CR Kennedy); and Directors: Dave Marshall (Fujifilm); Jason McLean (Canon); Adrian Fleming (Kodak) Bruno Turcato (Epson); Steuart Meers (Photo Direct); Stuart Holmes (IPS) and Gary Pertot (Adeal).

Bruce Pottinger has also retired after twenty years of service to the board. In a small presentation to Pottinger, Marshall thanked him for his long running stint as chairman of the annual photo show and said the industry owes him a big debt of gratitude.

Among the recent milestones in the association’s history Marshall listed: bringing back control of the annual imaging show to be in the hands of the Australian industry; taking steps to secure the financial future of the Australian PMA; and staging a successful show in the most challenging period the industry has ever faced;  and appointing a new Chief Executive Officer and a revitalised team to carry the work forward.

Newly elected president James Murray led a tribute to Dave Marshall and a vote of thanks for all the work he had undertaken.

"When the industry needed him, in spite of his own heavy work commitments, Dave heeded the call and stepped up to the industry plate. As with everything he does, Dave tacked the job with energy, enthusiasm and great foresight. He has been an inspirational leader," said Murray.

IDEA Chief Executive Officer Katherine Singson outlined plans for the 2013 Digital Show, which will be held in Melbourne next September.

"We have a strong board in place and we are confident that we can achieve some significant changes to ensure the coming event breaks new ground in achievement for our industry," said Singson.
