New Exhibition: Alexia Sinclair's 'Rococo'

Australian photo artist Alexia Sinclair will debut her latest body of work, Rococo, at Sydney's Black Eye Gallery in Darlinghurst later this month.

"Rococo is a series of theatrical artworks inspired by the lives, fashions, gardens and motifs of 18th Century high society," says Sinclair.

The works feature exquisitely costumed characters photographed against intricately constructed sets comprising thousands of live flowers.

"Following the design aesthetic of this period, the series is sensual, playful and flamboyant. The floral backdrops within the series pay homage to the dreamlike landscapes of the Rococo period. Known as the pleasure playgrounds, their hidden gardens, mazes and wild flower meadows formed the backdrop of decadent garden parties and mischievous encounters."

Rococo is at Black Eye Gallery – 3/138 Darlinghurst Rd, Darlinhurst – from 17 Februrary to 8 March 2015. Opening night is 19 February.
