A new series of images from Sydney-based photographer, Christian Mushenko, has gone on show at the Fox Gallery in Prague. “Longing” features photos that were photographed without a lens, exposing directly onto film and digital sensors. With minimal post production the images are stripped back to the raw ingredients of colour and light.
“With each image…there is a more basic response to light, creating an abstract colour field image,” said Mushenko. “The lack of focus in each artwork removes us from the actual subject in front of us. Instead it hints at the mysterious, often unclear vision of our futures, made up of our internal desires and longing. They are landscapes of the mind, depicting moments felt, rather than seen, things wished for but not known.”
Mushenko, who has long balanced parallel careers in fine art and commercial photography has worked for international clients including American Express, Elizabeth Arden, McDonald’s and Qantas. He is also known for his fine-art seascapes, which have featured on Hollywood movie sets such as Sex and the City II and Eat, Pray, Love.
"Longing" is at the Fox Gallery in Prague until January 17, 2014. It is expected to tour Australia later in 2014.
