Magnum’s latest print sale explores the line between fact and fiction

How much of a photograph is reality, and how much is the story we see in it? That’s the question behind Magnum Photos’ latest Square Print Sale, Fact/Fiction, running until November 1.

The sale brings together more than 70 images from Magnum photographers and estates, exploring the space between documentary photography, staged scenes and the surreal.

The lineup includes work by Martin Parr, Chris Killip, Bruce Davidson and Susan Meiselas, among others.

As photographer Cristina De Middel puts it, fiction can be “a mirror with better editing skills”, while reality is becoming increasingly difficult to pin down.

The prints are available online for one week, with signed or estate-stamped 6x6-inch prints starting at $US110, £110 or €120. For the first time, buyers can also choose selected works in a larger 9x9-inch format.

The sale runs until November 1. Find out more at Magnum Photos.
