Leica has announced a new firmware upgrade for its Leica X1. The X1 was released in 2009 and is one of a handful of compact cameras to include an APS-C format sensor.
The new firmware promises improved manual focus accuracy, a brighter monitor and faster autofoctus.
The full list of improvements published by Leica includes:
• Improved MF setting accuracy due to monitor image now always based on wide open aperture
• MF improvement by implementing finer steps when turning the click wheel slowly
• 2 MF speeds for more accurate and fast MF operation
• MF-setting Lock implemented
• MF-scale display enlarged
• Depth of field scale displayed in MF
• MF setting memorized after turning the camera off
• Improved autofocus speed in low light condition and low contrast subjects especially by
taking photos of the same subject several times
• ISO-setting will be displayed also in Auto-ISO
• Improved picture quality in JPEG
