A new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery features behind-the-scenes images of Australian stars of television, music and comedy.

The exhibition 'PROMO: Portraits from prime time' goes behind the scenes and into the spotlight with eight professional photographers who have shot images of the stars of Australian TV, music and comedy. Revealing the art, skill and collaboration in each image, organisers say PROMO represents a fascinating insight into portrait photography’s role in constructing and projecting the image of Australian celebrity.

The photographers represented in PROMO are Peter Brew-Bevan, Michelle Day, Ben King, Julian Kingma, Giovanni Lovisetto, Martin Philbey, John Tsiavis and Abigail Varney. The curators say PROMO will be displayed alongside the National Portrait Prize images in separate gallery spaces, but they will be joined by a thoroughfare creating a connection between two exhibitions which explore different aspects of contemporary photography and Australian culture.

Both exhibitions will be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery until June 9. Tickets are $10.00, or $8.00 for members and concession holders. Under 18s are free. The ticket price includes access to both exhibitions. The National Portrait Gallery is on King Edward Terrace, in Parkes, Canberra.
