With more than $50,000 up for grabs in prizes, organisers of the ninth Head On Portrait Prize are expecting more than 2,600 images in this year’s competition.
Closing date for entries is 11pm EDT Sunday 11 March 2012.
The judges for the 2012 annual prize are photographer Tamara Dean, Monash Gallery Director Shaune Lakin, ABC Presenter Robbie Buck and Head On Curator Moshe Rosenzveig. The ‘Critic’s Prize’ will be selected by photography critic Robert McFarlane. Past finalists of the Head On Portrait Prize include Stephen Dupont, Dean Sewell, Tamara Dean, Tim Page and Steven Siewert.
Three joint-winners will be announced at an event on Friday 4 May to coincide with the opening of the Head On Festival.
Competition finalists will be exhibited at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington, Sydney. The exhibition will feature prints by 40 finalists and a slideshow comprising a shortlist of an additional 200 images.
