Heading into its fourth year, this is the first year that the Landscape and Photo Book Awards have been included in the Head On program. Three prizes of $5000 in cash plus products will be awarded to the winners of the Portrait Prize, Landscape Prize and Photobook of the Year award.
Organisers say the Head Off approach to the Landscape is "very broad" and encompasses, "large vista images of natural environment (land or sea), urban or industrial settings". It may include people but these should be 'incidental' rather than the main subject matter. Organisers say they are looking for, "strong images rather than pretty ones".
Winning entries will be exhibited in the 2013 Head On Photo Festival, which runs from 17 May to 23 June 2013. The annual event is a celebration of photography and sees hundreds of photo exhibitions and events spring up around Sydney in galleries and other venues.
