Forty finalists have been selected in the 2011 Head On Portrait Prize.
Winners will be announced at the opening of the Head On Photo Festival at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington, Sydney, on May 5.
A further 200 entries will be short-listed for presentation as a slide show at the Portrait Prize Exhibition.
Founded by Moshe Rosenzveig in 2004, Head On has grown from a single independent photographic portrait competition to include more than 130 exhibitions and events which appear around the city in public and commercial galleries, cafes, parklands and in the streets themselves.
Head On Photo Festival runs from May 5 to June 11 2011.
The exhibition of Head On Portrait Prize winners and finalists will be on show at the Australian Centre for Photography for the duration of the event.
