Getty Images launches new #ShowUs Grant
Visual communications giant Getty Images, in partnership with Dove and Girlgaze, has introduced a new $10,000 grant linked to the company's Project #ShowUs Collection.

Launched in March 2019 with the aim of changing the way women are represented in the media, the Project #ShowUs Collection is a global library of images by creators who are women, female-identifying and non-binary. The images in the collection are chosen because they challenge longstanding beauty stereotypes.
Dr Rebecca Swift, Global Head of Creative Insights at Getty Images, commented, “With Project #ShowUs we set out to break visual clichés on an unprecedented scale via the creation of self-representing, authentic imagery by women and non-binary individuals.
It has never been more important to support our creator community. This grant will support more female-identifying and non-binary artists to create inclusive visual stories which drive a more diverse and representative visual landscape.”
The #ShowUs Grant will provide financial aid and mentorship to commercial photographers and videographers who are using their chosen medium to create inclusive visual narratives that represent women, female-identifying and non-binary individuals in an authentic way.
The newly created grant is open to applications from women, female-identifying and non-binary commercial photographers who have been shooting for fewer than five years.
The winning applicant will be chosen based on their ability to create a compelling visual story using still images or video. The judging panel will also consider the calibre of the applicant’s portfolio, the creator’s professional ability and their project’s merit, as well as the way their project engages with the #ShowUs Grant’s aim of authentically representing the voices and stories of women, female-identifying individuals and non-binary individuals.
The applicant selected to win the grant will be awarded $10,000, and they will also gain access to high-quality mentoring and guidance. Additionally, the successful applicant will be able to license their award-winning content through GettyImages.com at a 100% royalty rate for content created within their proposed project.
Applications are now being accepted, and will close on Friday May 10 at 11:59pm EST. You can apply for the grant here.
