Garry Trinh is a documentary photography known for his quirky and often poignant observations about life in the suburbs of Sydney. The winner of the Sydney Life photography prize in 2007 and the Auburn Mayoral Photographic Prize in 2009 and 2010, Trinh’s new exhibition, ‘Don’t Forget Your Beginner’s Spirit’ at the Australian Centre for Photography includes works spanning the last decade.

As an extension to the images in the exhibition, Trinh will have a studio space within the gallery. On view from Oxford Street, Trinh will move in and out of the space, producing new work which could appear in unexpected places. On-lookers are encouraged to drop in to chat with the artist and create a social space to motivate others to make personal work. By re-embracing the original enthusiasm of a beginner photographer picking up their camera, Trinh hopes to inspire and be inspired.

‘Don’t Forget Your Beginner’s Spirit’ is on at the Australian Centre for Photography from 30 November to 16 February 2014.
