Epson has announced the Australian release of it's new flagship A3+ printer, the SureColor SC-P600. The printer, which was first unveiled at Photokina in September 2014, uses Epson’s nine-colour UltraChrome HD pigment inkset with four separate black cartridges – photo black, matte black, light black and light-light black. Epson claims the SC-P600, with a 2.84 DMax, delivers the highest black density of any Epson printer.

Photographers using the printer to produce black-and-white prints can choose from one of four preset modes – neutral, warm, cool, or sepia – with the option to fine tune tone using several custom slider bars and a colour tone wheel. In addition, customised settings can be saved and recalled to achieve consistent prints.

The SC-P600 offers auto-switching of photo and matte black inks depending on paper selection and Wi-Fi connectivity from smartphones, tablets and PCs. Users can also print using Epson Connect, Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint.

Key features of the new printer include: twin paper paths; roll paper option for wide-format panorama prints; canvas and thick fine-art paper printing; print speed of 153 seconds (for an A3+ print); 2.7-inch colour touch panel; and a footprint of 616 x 369 x 228mm.

The SureColor SC-P600 will retail for $1499. Individual cartridges hold 25.9ml of ink and retail for $47.99 each.
