Canon Australia has announced plans for the return of its EOS Photo5 photo competition in 2012.
As with previous years, photographers who take part receive a small cardboard box which contains five everyday objects, each one a different photographic brief. Each object is also accompanied by instructions to incorporate specific creative photography techniques into a shot. The briefs remain a secret until the boxes arrive on people's doorsteps on 6 September 2012. Last year, the briefs were foam, sequins, powder, ribbon and 'through a pet’s eyes'.
"Over the last five years we’ve received an astounding number of entries with nearly 10,000 entries in last year’s competition alone," said Chris Macleod, Brand Manager – EOS, Canon Australia. "This year’s competition will provide exciting new challenges for entrants to channel their inner creativity and take their photography to the next level."
Photographers who uploaded five images to last year's EOS Photo5 competition are automatically eligible to receive a box for the 2012 competition. All other applicants may submit an image on the theme "wind" from 23 August. Canon says a limited number of boxes will be available on a "first in, best dressed" basis.
Finalists will be selected by a new judging panel comprising professional photographers Mike Langford, Daniel Boud, Tania Niwa, Peter Coulson, Christopher Ireland and Daniel Linnet. Ultimately the winners will be determined by the World of EOS community with voting commencing on 9 November 2012.
