The Ballarat International Foto Biennale Portfolio Review prize winner is Amber McCraig. As it heads into its second weekend, the Ballarat International Foto Biennale portfolio review panel has announced the winner of the Portfolio Review Prize and the winners in both amateur and professional sections of the ‘One for the Books’ Prize. By consensus of the portfolio review panel Amber McCaig has been awarded the 2013 Portfolio Review Prize, with it an invitation to submit a proposal for possible inclusion of her work in the Core Program at BIFB’15.

“A lot of work goes into my photographic projects, so to get the feedback that I’m on the right track is a real positive,” said McCaig. Her body of work, titled ‘Imagined Histories’, features portraits of historical re-enactors. McCraig said, “I think Ballarat should brace itself for an influx of historical re-enactors coming to see the exhibition!” The ‘One for the Books’ Prize, sponsored by Blurb, was split into two sections: amateur and professional.

Erin Stonestreet took the amateur prize for her title ‘Air + Earth: The View from 30,000ft’, which deals with the aerial view of earth. In her title, scale is all but abandoned as the abstract images from above take on a sense of the magical.

Charles Klein’s title ‘Dadslides’ deals with the nostalgia which comes from the discovery of family photographs after the loss of a loved one. Containing his late father’s slides from 1950 to 1981, the book explores the narrative of family and Australian life in that era. ‘Dadslides’ won the professional section of the ‘One for the Books’ Prize. Both winners scored $1000 in cash as well as a $500 Blurb voucher.
