Wollongong-based photographer Ben McRae has been named Australia's Top Emerging Photographer for 2013. McRae picked up the award in Capture magazine's annual Australia's Top Emerging Photographer Awards, which showcase Australia's finest up-and-coming photographic talent. The full list of winners and runners up, along with a selection of their work, is published in the May/June 2013 issue of Capture magazine.

Judged by 54 pre-eminent professional photographers from Australia and abroad, the competition invited photographers with less than four year's full-time professional experience  to submit portfolios of six images across any of nine categories: Editorial/Fashion, Wedding, Portrait, Landscape, Architectural, Advertising, Documentary, Sport and, for the first time, Student.

McRae, as well as being named Australlia's Top Emerging Photographer of 2013, also won the Landscape award and was runner-up in the Portrait category. Category winners were Stuart Miller (Advertising), John Madden (Architecture), Alexandrena Parker (Editorial/Fashion), Ben McRae (Landscape), David Maurice Smith (Documentary/photojournalism), Ryan Fitzgerald (Portrait), Jaimi Chisholm (Sport), Jana Maré (Student) and Peter Diakonikolis (Wedding).

The May/June 2013 issue is the first issue of Capture magazine that is available for iPad. The iPad version features bonus content, including additional work from the winners and finalists,  and is available via the iTunes App store from Monday 6 May. Those interested in the iPad version can download the app and a sample iPad issue (the 2012 Annual) for free, while the latest magazine can be purchased as either a single issue for $4.99 or a 12-month subscription for $29.99.
