Judge's comment

There were some wonderful landscape, bird and even insect images in this month's “Green” competition, but despite all these gems, it was a structural image that caught my judging eye.

Bruce McDonald’s photo Hull Markings is an interesting study in design and texture. The rusting hull and fading green paint provide a beautiful canvas to those numerals, that for many of us seem more like a gauge of time than actual load lines. And what I love about this image even more is that between the lighting and the geometry of the boat it is actually difficult to know which way the surfaces are moving on this boat (hint - the hull in the right of the frame is actually coming towards us).

Special mentions go to Andrew Lake for Dandelion Head, and also to Michelle Keating's delicate study of a young child going green.
