Apple is set to cease development of its pro photo application Aperture, instead shifting its focus to the upcoming 'Photos for OSX' app, announced at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) conference last month.
Rumours of Aperture's demise have been making the rounds on several tech blogs in recent weeks.
Tech Crunch was first to report the change, announcing the following statement from Apple: "With the introduction of the new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library, enabling you to safely store all of your photos in iCloud and access them from anywhere, there will be no new development of Aperture. When Photos for OS X ships next year, users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS X."
Apple's consumer photo editing and management application, iPhoto, will also be replaced by 'Photos for OSX'. It's understood that Aperture and iPhoto will be updated to operate under OS X Yosemite, which will be released later this year.
