A spectacular photographic exhibition showcasing the grandeur of Antarctica has opened at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.

Elysium Antarctic Visual Epic is the the result of a unique scientific and artistic expedition to Antarctica, and features images by an award-winning team of photographers including David Doubilet, Jennifer Hayes, Andreas Jaschek, Steve Jones, Amos Nachoum, Michael AW, and Jenny E Ross.

Inspired by the Antarctic environment and Ernest Shackleton's Trans Antarctic Expedition of 1914-17, a team of 57 explorers from 18 countries travelled to Antarctica in 2010 to conduct scientific research and create a photographic and video record of Antarctica's epic landscape as a reference for monitoring climate change in the future. Photographer's captured Antarctica's obsidian-blue ice giants and its magnificent wildlife, from seals and penguin colonies to micro-organisms.

The exhibition is on show at the Australian National Maritime Museum until November 3. Entry to the Museum's galleries and exhibitions is $7 for adults and free for children under four.
