2021 Photographer of the Year presented by Nokia opens for entries

We're delighted to announce our annual photo competition, the 2021 Photographer of the Year, is now open for entries.

Now in its ninth year, Photographer of the Year presented by Nokia is the biggest competition for amateur photographers in the Southern hemisphere. Winners and runners up in the 2021 edition of the competition will share in more than $30,000 in cash and prizes.

The overall winner of Photographer of the Year will join World Photography Adventures on a photography tour in 2022 valued at $5,000 with up to $500 towards flights. The overall winner will also win a new Nokia Smartphone valued at $700.

Our other category prizes include Camera House, Haida and Maxxum gift vouchers, SanDisk storage, an Epson printer, WD storage, a BenQ image-editing monitor and gear from MSI, as well as $10,000 cash. You can see all the category prizes on our competition page.

After a two year hiatus, we've listened to your advice and brought back Aerial, a portfolio category now distinct from our other categories. For Aerial, we're looking for the best images taken from an elevated position, whether that be from a building, a drone or a plane.

Due to the ongoing restrictions on travel globally, we've decided to not offer the Travel category this year. However all our other categories, including People, Black and White, Landscape, Animal and Nature, Mobile, Creative, Junior and Photo of the Year are back for 2021, with Mobile now a single image category.

As always, the winners, runners-up and top-finalists in the competition will feature in our special Photographer of the Year issue of AP magazine in February 2022, with our winners to be chosen by a panel of professional photographers who will be announced shortly.

We've also recently updated the results from 2020 online - click here to see the top 20 for every category in the the competition last year, including judges' comments for the winners and runners-up.

Finally a huge thank you to our amazing sponsors Nokia, WDSandisk, World Photo Adventures, BenQ, WD, Epson, MSI, Camera House and Haida for their support of photographers in Australia and New Zealand.

Pre-earlybird entries are open now. You can enter the competition here.
