Viltrox has released its AF 50mm F1.4 Pro FE lens for full-frame cameras, a more 'Pro' successor to the impressive Viltrox 50mm f/2 we reviewed earlier this year.

The lens features a 50mm focal length, an F1.4 aperture, fast autofocus, and a weather-sealed metal body.

The lens delivers sharp, high-resolution images across the frame, even on high-megapixel cameras.

Its optical design includes 15 elements in 11 groups, including ultra-precision aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberration and colour fringing.

Viltrox says it is suitable for portraits, street photography, close-ups down to 0.45m, and landscape work.

The F1.4 aperture should allow for low-light shooting and shallow depth-of-field effects, producing smooth bokeh and clear subject separation.

Viltrox’s Dual HyperVCM autofocus system provides fast, quiet, and stable focusing. It works with camera face and eye detection and offers minimal focus breathing for video.

It's worth noting the the Nikon Z mount version of the 50mm weighs 830g and measures 113mm long, which is nearly double the weight of the Nikkor 50mm F1.4.

By means of comparison, the Sony E mount model is slightly smaller at 800g and 111mm long, but that's still considerably heavier than the Sony 50mm F1.4 GM lens, which comes in at 516g.

The AF 50mm F1.4 Pro FE is available now in Australia through Viltrox, with a suggested retail price of $549 AUD.

More information is available on the Viltrox website.
