Viltrox announces 56mm F1.2 Pro lens
On top of this week's announcement that it had joined the L-Mount Alliance, Viltrox has announced the AF 56mm F1.2 Pro, a portrait-oriented, affordable, prime lens for E and X mount APS-C cameras.
The lens offers an 84mm full-frame equivalent focal length and a fast F1.2 maximum aperture.
The lens has 13 elements in 8 groups, including three high-refractive index elements, one extra-low dispersion element, and one aspherical element. Viltrox says this design helps maintain sharpness across the frame and reduces chromatic aberration.
Autofocus is driven by a HyperVCM motor that is designed to operate quietly and with minimal focus breathing, which can be useful for both still photography and video. The minimum focusing distance is 0.5m.
The lens body includes an aperture ring that can be clicked or de-clicked, a customizable function button, and an AF/MF switch. It is made from aluminum alloy, has some weather sealing, supports 67mm filters, and includes a USB-C port for firmware updates.
The new lens is available for pre-order for both X-Mount and E-Mount for a pretty affordable $551 USD ($845 AUD) direct from Viltrox. The glass should ship in a month.
