Ulanzi launches retro-inspired waist-level viewfinder for modern mirrorless cameras
Ulanzi has introduced the VF01, a compact waist-level optical viewfinder that brings a bit of old-school charm to modern mirrorless and compact cameras.
The VF01 uses a three-element, high-transmission lens to offer a bright, distortion-free view with minimal colour fringing.
Its ground-glass focusing screen helps with precise framing and is aimed at photographers who enjoy street and documentary work. Ulanzi says the finder delivers the best clarity at a focusing distance of around five metres.
The unit is built around a 28mm full-frame field of view and also includes 35mm and 50mm framelines so photographers can quickly visualise different focal lengths.
Because it’s entirely optical, the VF01 gives an uninterrupted look at the scene and helps shooters stay aware of what’s happening around them.
A magnetic retro-style hood flips open with one hand to block stray light and keep the view clear.
The VF01 uses a standard cold shoe and works with a wide range of cameras including the Ricoh GR series, Fujifilm X100 and X-T lines, Sony a6000 models, Nikon Z30 and Zfc, Canon R100 and R10, Olympus E-P7 and Panasonic GX bodies.
The VF01 weighs 63g and measures 45.2 × 38.2 × 44.2mm. It is available now for pre-order for $40 USD ($61 AUD) with shipping starting 6 November 2025. It comes in either Classic Black or Vintage Silver.
