Tamron has announced the 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Model B070), a new, fast standard zoom lens for Fuji X-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras.

Often compared to the popular 24-105mm focal length (due to the 1.5x "crop factor"), the lens appears to be much the same as the Sony E-Mount version released back in 2020.

That means a build comprising 16 elements in 12 groups, and two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) and one hybrid aspherical lens element which should contribute to high-resolution performance from edge to edge. Autofocus is powered by a quiet RXD stepping motor.

The lens has a nine-blade round aperture, and weighs just under 250g. It’s also moisture-resistant and it features a fluorine coating for extra protection.

The lens is also equipped with a VC (vibration compensation) mechanism which Tamron says is optimised for both stills and video, and will work with cameras with or without in-body image stabilisation.

When shooting video, image stabilisation relies on AI, which can adjust automatically to best compensate for different shooting situations.

The new lens retails for $1,449.00 AUD, and will be available locally from July 8.
