Sony has annouced its newest G Master prime lens, the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 G Master (SEL35F14GM), which takes the number of G Master primes in the Sony lens range up to seven, and joins an already crowded pool of 35mm lenses in the Sony lineup, alongside two from Zeiss (at both f/2.8 and f/1.4) and Sony’s own 35mm f/1.8 G lens released in 2019.

Designed for Sony's full frame A7 and A9 series, the FE 35mm F1.4 G Master is made of a 'hybrid metal and engineering plastic’, and is weather sealed.

On the outside there's a dedicated aperture control ring (that can be clicked or de-clicked) and custom hold button, and the front element has a fluorine coating to resist fingerprints and water, along with a Nano AR Coating II to control flare.

Inside there are two XD linear motors, both of which have no moving parts and are friction free. The lens incorporates two ultra-high precision XA elements, along with two ED elements to suppress chromatic aberration. There's an 11-bladed circular aperture for clean bokeh.

The new lens is also compact at just 96mm long and 524g. It has a minimum focus distance of 0.27m (AF) or 0.25m (MF).

The FE 35mm F1.4 GM will be available in Australia from mid-February 2021 for a SRP of $2,449. By comparison, 2019's 35mm f/1.8 G lens will set you back $1,099.
