SanDisk has expanded its portable SSD range with three new models: the SanDisk Portable SSD, the Extreme Portable SSD, and the Extreme PRO SSD.

The drives maintain the familiar design of previous generations and are offered in multiple capacities to suit different storage needs.

The Extreme Portable SSDs will come in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB versions, with a 500GB option coming later.

All deliver read/write speeds up to 2,000MB/s, which SanDisk says is enough to transfer around 1,000 high-resolution photos in under a minute.

For more demanding workloads, the Extreme PRO SSD offers speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and is aimed at professional photographers, filmmakers, and designers.

Initially available in 2TB and 4TB capacities, an 8TB version is planned for later this year. The standard SanDisk Portable SSD is designed for casual users seeking simple file storage and transfers.

All three drives feature durable builds with IP65 dust and water resistance. Drop protection varies by model: the standard SSD withstands drops up to 2 metres, while the Extreme and Extreme PRO models can survive drops of up to 3 metres.

The higher-end drives also include 256-bit AES hardware encryption and password protection, along with a five-year warranty (the standard drive has a three-year limited warranty).

Pricing for the Extreme Portable SSD starts at $259.99 USD ($365 AUD) for 1TB, with 2TB and 4TB models listed at $459.99 USD ($650 AUD) and $919.99 USD ($1,298 AUD) respectively.

SanDisk has yet to announce pricing for the Extreme PRO models, which are expected later in 2026.
