Ricoh confirms GR IVx compact camera with 40mm-equivalent lens

Ricoh has confirmed that its next high-end compact camera, the RICOH GR IVx, is currently in development, bringing a new 40mm-equivalent lens to the popular GR series.

Announced on August 26, the GR IVx will sit alongside the RICOH GR IV, which features a 28mm-equivalent lens, and is also offered in a variety of different versions, including monochrome and ND filterless.

The new model is designed around a 40mm-equivalent focal length, giving photographers a narrower, more natural perspective than the GR IV's wide-angle view. Ricoh says the angle of view is close to that of human vision, opening up a different approach to snapshot photography.

Beyond the new lens, Ricoh hasn't yet revealed the camera's full specifications. The company says details of the GR IVx's functions will be announced with the official product launch.

The GR IVx is planned for release from winter 2026 onwards, although Ricoh has not provided a specific date.

The announcement also signals the end of the road for the current RICOH GR IIIx range in Japan. Production of the GR IIIx, GR IIIx HDF and GR IIIx Urban Edition is expected to finish, with final shipments planned for October 2026, although timing may vary in other markets.
