Peak Design unveils modular Field Bracket system for photographers

Peak Design has announced the Field Bracket, a new modular L-bracket system designed to give photographers more flexibility when working on and off a tripod.

Unlike traditional L-brackets, which are typically fixed in place, the Field Bracket uses a modular design that allows users to quickly add or remove the upright section without tools. This lets photographers switch between a slim baseplate for everyday shooting and a full L-bracket for portrait orientation on a tripod.

The system is built around a camera-specific baseplate, machined from recycled aluminium and shaped to fit supported camera bodies. Peak Design says its new Field Latch mechanism allows the upright to be attached or removed in seconds, while also enabling it to be repositioned to provide clearance for tethering cables and other accessories.

Field Bracket is also designed to act as the foundation for a broader accessory ecosystem. Optional add-ons include a Cheese Plate, which replaces the upright with multiple mounting points for lights, microphones and monitors, and a Hand Strap that integrates directly with the bracket for improved comfort during handheld shooting.

Peak Design has also introduced the Beacon Finder Tag, which it says is the first tracker designed to fit inside an Arca-compatible camera plate. The slim tracking device aims to help photographers locate misplaced gear without adding noticeable bulk.

The company says the Field Bracket maintains access to camera controls and ports, while remaining compatible with Peak Design's Capture Clip, camera straps and a range of third-party Arca-compatible accessories.

"The best camera accessories disappear into your workflow until you need them," said Peak Design founder and CEO Peter Dering. "Instead of asking photographers to permanently attach functionality they only use some of the time, we built a system that can transform in seconds while remaining just as rigid and dependable as a traditional L-bracket."

The Field Bracket launches on Kickstarter on 21 July, marking Peak Design's 17th crowdfunding campaign.

Camera-specific versions will be available for selected Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Leica cameras.

The Field Bracket has a recommended retail price of US$149.95 ($214 AUD), while optional accessories, including the Cheese Plate, Hand Strap and Beacon Finder Tag, will start from US$39.95 ($57 AUD).
