Pansonic announces 40mm F2 lens

Panasonic has announced a new addition to its L-Mount lens lineup, the Panasonic Lumix S 40mm F2.

The compact prime lens is aimed at everyday shooting, offering a 40mm focal length and a bright F2 aperture suited to street photography, portraits and general use.

The focal length sits close to a natural field of view, while the wide aperture allows for subject separation and low-light shooting without pushing ISO too far.

Weighing around 144g and measuring approximately 40.9mm in length, the lens is designed to pair with smaller full-frame bodies such as the Panasonic Lumix S9. It has a 62mm filter thread.

Despite its size, the lens includes a dust- and splash-resistant build, along with a fluorine coating on the front element to help keep it clean in the field. There's also focus breathing suppression and 'micro-step' aperture control designed to deliver smoother footage and exposure transitions.

The 40mm F2 will be available from June in black and silver, with a recommended retail price of $699.
