Panasonic announces Lumix S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 MACRO O.I.S. lens
Panasonic has announced a new macro lens, the Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro OIS.
The company claims the new optic is the smallest and lightest zoom lens for mirrorless systems, although they do caveat this by saying it earns that title only among AF compatible full-frame mirrorless cameras, and lenses with an optical zoom of 7x or more - so you can probably take that with a grain of salt.
That said, it is pretty small, with the Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro OIS just 9.3cm long and 413 grams.
The 28-200's Dual IS 2 stabilizer can compensate for up to 6.5 stops of camera shake. It's capable of taking half-size (0.5x) close-ups with a minimum distance of 14cm.
Panasonic says that the lens has been designed to reduce focus breathing, and users can choose between linear or non-linear focus ring settings.
The lens is dust/splash/freeze-resistant, and comes with a fluorine coating. It takes a 67mm filter.
The Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 will be available in May for $1599.
