OM System has released the M.Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm f/2.8 IS Pro, a telephoto zoom lens for the Micro Four Thirds system that covers a full-frame equivalent range of 100-400mm with a constant f/2.8 aperture.

The lens weighs 1,075 grams, lighter than many comparable full-frame models. Canon’s 100-300mm f/2.8, for example, weighs 2,650 grams and offers less reach.

Optical construction consists of 21 elements in 13 groups, including a large-diameter EDA lens and two super ED elements to reduce flare and chromatic aberration.

OM System has also applied its ZERO Coating II to suppress ghosting in backlit conditions, and the inner zoom design helps maintain balance while adjusting focal length.

Autofocus performance supports burst rates up to 50 frames per second. The lens is also compatible with OM System teleconverters, extending reach to 800mm equivalent with a maximum aperture of f/5.6.

Close-up capability includes a minimum focusing distance of 0.78 meters across the zoom range, with 0.5x equivalent magnification. When paired with a 2x teleconverter, magnification increases to 1x.

For stabilisation, the 50-200mm f/2.8 IS Pro integrates with OM System’s in-body systems to provide up to seven stops of correction at the 400mm equivalent.

The lens is sealed to IP53 standards against dust and moisture, freeze-proof to -10°C, and finished with a heat-resistant coating to reduce temperature buildup in hot weather.

The new lens will set you back $5,199.
