NiSi has announced its new JetMag Pro Star Soft magnetic filters, designed for astrophotographers and night landscape shooters wanting a softer, more atmospheric look in their images.

Available in both the standard 82MAG format and the larger MAXMAG system for ultra-wide lenses, the filters add subtle diffusion to bright stars and celestial objects, creating a gentle glow effect while maintaining overall detail in the night sky.

The release reflects a broader trend in astrophotography, with many photographers increasingly embracing softer, more cinematic rendering rather than purely clinical sharpness. NiSi says the filters can also help smooth the appearance of high-ISO noise and enhance colour separation within night scenes as well, further emphasising this effect.

The MAXMAG version is aimed at ultra-wide lenses that typically cannot accept front filters, including the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S and Sony FE 14mm f/1.8 GM, using dedicated magnetic mounting adapters.

Prices start at $169 for the 'standard' filter, and $349 for the MAXMAG version. The new glass is available from NiSi on preorder now
