Nikon developing nine-lens Z Cinema range for large-format RED sensors
Nikon has announced development of the NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV series, a new range of cinema lenses aimed at professional productions and content creators.
The series will comprise nine lenses, including the NIKKOR Z CINEMA 50mm T1.9 VV. Nikon says the lenses will combine cinema-focused optical performance with features suited to professional production, including a high-precision autofocus mechanism.
The range will also feature Nikon’s first NIKKOR lenses with an image circle large enough to cover RED Digital Cinema’s V-RAPTOR [X] VV sensor, which measures 40.96 x 21.60mm and is larger than a full-frame sensor.
The development follows Nikon’s acquisition of RED Digital Cinema and the expansion of RED cameras supporting the Z mount.
Nikon has not yet announced pricing, availability or the specifications of the remaining eight lenses.
