Nikon 1 bites the dust
In news that probably won't be a huge surprise to many Nikon-watchers, the Nikon 1 mirrorless system of cameras, lenses and accessories was quietly discontinued last week.
In an email to DPReview, Nikon announced the series was no longer being produced, and with the newest camera in the lineup launched more than three years ago on April 2, 2015, it's long been a matter of when, not if, they would cease production.
Nikon's current plans appear to be heading down the full frame mirrorless route, with a new camera rumoured to be unveiled at Photokina in September.
The first Nikon 1 camera was developed in September 2011, with the release of the Nikon 1 J1 and Nikon 1 V1 cameras. The series went on to offer 11 different cameras and 12 different lenses, as well as accessories including flashes, cases, GPS units and more.
