Micro Four Thirds alliance expands
Olympus and Panasonic have announced three more companies have joined the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) System standard.
In the first formal addition to the standard since MFT launched in 2008, Yongnuo, Mediaedge and Venus Optics have all committed to make products for the format.
Both Yongnuo and Venus Optics (Laowa) are not entirely new, as they have developed MFT products in the past, along with many other brands including DJI, Kodak, Samyang and Sigma. However Mediaedge, a Japanese company known for creating and promoting various video streaming and display systems, is a bit more of an unknown quantity.
In a press release, Olympus said:
"We are pleased to announce that three more companies have recently declared their support for the Micro Four Thirds System standard and will be introducing products compliant with the standard.
As the company responsible for initiating both the Four Thirds System and the Micro Four Thirds System standards, Olympus will continue to develop and enhance the product line-up to meet the diverse needs of our customers."

Olympus Corporation and Panasonic Corporation jointly announced the Micro Four Thirds System standard in 2008 and have since been working together to promote the standard.
