Skylum has launched Luminar on Web, a browser-based photo editor that supports RAW files and includes several of the AI-powered editing tools found in its desktop software.

The editor runs in a web browser, allowing users to upload and edit photos without installing dedicated software. A basic version is available for free, while full access costs US$69 ($98 AUD) as a one-time purchase.

RAW editing is one of the key features, alongside tools such as GenErase for removing unwanted objects, Photo Restoration for enhancing older or damaged images, and Light Depth for adjusting lighting and adding depth to a scene.

The web editor also includes Luminar’s AI-powered Sky, Structure, Body and Bokeh tools, along with presets and LUTs. Skylum says users can move between devices and continue editing, with access to a shared asset library.

According to Skylum, Luminar on Web is the first browser-based photo editor to offer its Light Depth technology, as well as the first to combine presets and LUTs in a single online editor.

The company says the product is designed to appeal to both beginners and more experienced photographers. According to Luminar, less experienced users can access advanced editing tools without needing to learn a complex desktop application, while established photographers can work on images from different devices.

“Most web photo editors are designed for either advanced or casual users,” Skylum says. “A web editor capable enough for advanced users yet simple enough for beginners is rare.”

Ivan Kutanin, CEO of Skylum, says the launch marks a move towards making Luminar a multiplatform product, with a focus on making photo editing more accessible.

Luminar on Web is available now through the Skylum website. The basic version is free, with full access available for a one-time payment of US$69.

Skylum is positioning the product as an alternative to subscription-based editing software, offering a lifetime licence for the web version alongside its desktop and mobile options.
