Leica announces the Q2: 47.3MP sensor, 4K video, weather sealing

Leica has introduced the Q2, bringing updates to its predecessor including a new 47.3MP full-frame sensor (up from 24MP), weather proofing, including splash and dust proofing that promises to be in line with the SL, UHD 4K video recording.

The camera features the same stabilized 28mm F1.7 lens that helped popularise the Q, and is the same size. The Q2 offers the same 35mm and 50mm in-camera crop functions, but adds a new 75mm mode.

The Q2 offers weather-sealing, equal or exceeding the IP52 weather-resistance rating, and it promises to be at the same level as the SL.

Inside, there's a new OLED built-in viewfinder with 3.68M dots.

Wi-Fi connectivity is now offered alongside Bluetooth Low Energy, which avoides constant re-pairing when connecting to the camera to reduce power use.

The Q2 also uses a higher-capacity battery than the Q, and users should expect 370 shots per charge.

The Leica Q2 begins shipping today for $7,700. You can find out more at Leica Store Australia.
