Kodak revives the slide-cover design with new EC35 film camera

The resurgence of film photography shows no sign of slowing, and Kodak has unveiled another entry-level analogue camera designed to make shooting on 35mm as simple as possible.

Produced under licence by Reto, the new Kodak EC35 is a compact, reloadable point-and-shoot that combines disposable-camera simplicity with the ability to load fresh rolls of film.

One of its standout features is a sliding lens cover – a design element that recalls classic compact cameras from the 1990s while also protecting the lens and preventing accidental shutter presses when the camera is tucked into a pocket or bag.

The EC35 is aimed squarely at beginners and casual photographers looking for an affordable way into film photography. It features a fixed-focus 25mm f/10 acrylic lens, a fixed shutter speed of 1/100 second and a built-in flash powered by a single AA battery.

Film advance and rewind are manual, keeping the camera mechanically simple while offering a more sustainable alternative to single-use disposable cameras.

Weighing just 102g, the EC35 is available in seven colours, including Midnight Black, Vanilla White, Butter Yellow, Lavender, Powder Blue, Blush Pink and Avocado, giving it a playful aesthetic that is likely to appeal to younger photographers discovering analogue photography for the first time.

The camera is priced at US$34.99 ($50 AUD) with an optional bundle including a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 film available for around US$10 extra.

That places it among the most affordable reusable film cameras currently on the market and below the price of many premium disposable cameras.

The launch follows growing consumer interest in analogue photography, with manufacturers continuing to release accessible film cameras alongside renewed investment in film stocks.
