Insta360 releases featherweight X4 Air
Insta360 has introduced the X4 Air, a lightweight 8K 360-degree camera aimed at travellers, outdoor enthusiasts and everyday users.
Weighing 165g, it becomes the smallest and lightest 8K 360 model in the company’s X Series.
“The X4 Air is about capturing life as it happens,” said Max Richer, Insta360’s VP of Marketing and Co-Founder. “It lets creators stay present while capturing everything around them.”
The camera includes dual 1/1.8-inch sensors and updated processing that deliver 8K footage with improved detail and colour. A new AdaptiveTone exposure system analyses light from both lenses to help retain highlights and shadows.
Active HDR is now supported up to 8K 30p. Portrait Mode aims for smoother skin tones, and noise-reduction improvements are designed to keep night footage clean.
The X4 Air uses replaceable lenses with a protective optical coating said to double drop resistance compared with the previous X4. Optional guards provide further protection.
The camera is waterproof to 15 metres and features FlowState stabilisation and 360-degree horizon lock.
While the flagship X5 remains the top option for maximum image quality, Insta360 says the X4 Air offers many of the same strengths in a smaller body and is compatible with most X5 accessories.
The camera can record 4K 60p POV footage and supports drone-style shots when paired with the company’s Invisible Selfie Stick. InstaFrame Mode saves both a standard flat video and a full 360 version at the same time.
New control options include Twist to Shoot, gesture controls and voice commands for hands-free operation. Editing tools in the Insta360 app can auto-frame clips, build short highlight reels and sync footage to music.
The X4 Air also supports data integration with Apple, Garmin and HUAWEI devices.
A one-year Insta360 Plus cloud subscription with 200 GB of storage is included for a limited time.
The X4 Air launches globally on 28 October and is priced at US $399.99 (Standard Bundle) with the Starter Bundle priced at US $439.99.
In Australia, the equivalent pricing is estimated at AU$639.99 for the Standard Bundle.
