DJI launches Osmo Action 4

DJI is replacing last year's Osmo Action 3 with the new Osmo Action 4.

The new action cam features a Type 1/1.3 sensor (compared to the Osmo Action 3's Type 1/1.7 sensor) without changing the 155-degree field of view. It's an unusual sensor size, but the same size as on the recently announced DJI Air 3, which we'll assume makes it the same sensor.

Unfortunately that's pretty much it over its predecessor, with no changes to the frame rate options compared to the previous camera.

What that does mean is you can expect the same f/2.8 aperture lens that can shoot up to 4K at 120 frames per second in 10-bit D-Log M colour. like its predecessor, it'll survive underwater shooting at a depth of up to 18 meters without a case.

The action cam also comes with what DJI calls an “advanced colour temperature sensor” which allows it to produce true-to-life tones in all shooting situations, including underwater.

Interestingly, battery life is actually worse than on the Action 3, down from 160 minutes to 150 when recording at 1080p/24fps (16:9), with RockSteady on, Wi-Fi off, and the screen off. As you might expect, shooting at higher resolution will result in less recording time on either camera.

That said, if you do run out of battery, the cam is capable of charging from zero to 80% full in 18 minutes.

The Action 4 has multiple features to support image capture, including vertical shooting and a magnetic quick release, along with a front and rear facing LCD.

And, like most DJI products, there's a wealth of accessories available for just about every shooting possibility, including a waterproof case, an extended-power battery, lens protectors, extension rods and more.

Osmo Action 4 is available now from store.dji.com and usual retailers, starting at $629.
