James Russell, Shearing...a New England Tradition (Black and White 2017)

Part of an ongoing project capturing the annual shearing done at a number of New England Sheep Properties, these images attempt to capture sights, sounds and smells that occur in and around a typical Aussie wool shed during shearing season. Back breaking work, a hive of endless activity and plenty of banter punctuate these weatherbeaten cathedrals of Australian culture. These photographs feature a number of Wool Sheds all within an hours drive of my Armidale home.
