Video: How to shoot a high quality video on your iPhone

Sure, expensive gear can make the job easier, but what if you don’t have a high budget? Well, in that case – just shoot with what you have in your pocket.

In this detailed new video, Ryan Connolly of Film Riot explains how to shoot a high-quality video using nothing but your smartphone.

Connolly says the app you use is a very important part of the process. He uses Filmic Pro, available for both Android and iOS. It lets you choose various shooting settings, such as quality, frame rate, audio, focus, exposure and more. You can also lock focus and exposure, very handy when shooting in changing light.

You should also provide proper stabilization. Ryan uses a DJI Osmo gimbal, which syncs with the Filmic Pro app. However despite locking the exposure, you'll notice the results were all over the place - with different exposure, quality, and color profile in the final video, but all these issues can be fixed in post relatively easily.

Regardless of whether you have a 'budget' $15,000 camera like a RED RAVEN, or just your smartphone, the most important thing is to prepare correctly, it'll give you the best chance of success.
