Olympus is set to launch a new prime lens for the Micro Four Thirds system. The M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8 lens features a metal lens barrel and is expected to be available in Australia in December 2012.

With an equivalent focal length of 34mm and a wide maximum aperture of f/1.8 the lens well suited to low-light photography. It uses nine lens elements in six groups design with two aspherical and one high precision Dual Super Aspherical (DSA) lens element.

Featuring Olympus' MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) focusing system, it offers fast and silent AF tracking in movie and still mode. A manual focus clutch mechanism makes it easy to switch between auto and manual focus and a depth-of-field scale is engraved into the focus ring.
